Join Our Client’s Commercial Team as a Commercial Manager!

Our client’s Commercial team plays a crucial role in supporting the entire commercial lifecycle, handling everything from procuring ammunition and advanced IT solutions to managing operational technology and professional services.

We are seeking a Commercial Manager to join the Technology pillar, where you will serve as a trusted commercial advisor. In this role, you’ll align with business needs and deliver a customer-focused service. Your goal will be to achieve commercial excellence through category management, fostering relationships with key strategic suppliers, driving value for money, and ensuring outstanding risk management across the category. Your daily responsibilities will include analysing requirements and data, leveraging market insights, and supporting sourcing activities.

As a Commercial Manager, you’ll work across the procurement process, both as part of a larger team and independently. To succeed in this role, you should have solid experience in category management, a strong understanding of sourcing and procurement methodologies, and familiarity with public sector processes, procedures, and governance. We’re looking for someone who can effectively implement a sourcing strategy, plan spend and savings for categories or sub-categories, and lead negotiations with third parties, backed by strategic thinking and excellent communication skills.

This role offers flexible working arrangements, with a minimum of two days (soon to be three) in an office setting, including one day at our headquarters in London.

Experience Required:

  • IT category management for several years.
  • Demonstrates strategic thinking, able to define and execute planning against a sourcing strategy and plan for spend categories or groups of sub-categories.
  • Insight and understanding of technology categories.
  • Excellent understanding of sourcing and procurement methodologies, ideally within a regulated or Public Sector environment.
  • Experience of developing and implementing procurement/ contract management strategies in collaboration with the business which deliver high quality commercial outcomes and organisational benefits, whilst ensuring value for money.
  • Experience of developing, delivering and implementing contract management plans, evidencing commercial management and delivery in complex environments.
  • Ability to lead negotiations with 3rd parties and successfully employ appropriate negotiating techniques based on category sourcing strategy.
  • Highly effective communicator who can work with a range of stakeholders and senior managers with the ability to present a sound and well-reasoned approach to convince others.
  • Experience working and effectively influencing stakeholders, projecting personal impact and credibility at all levels of the organisation and the external market, demonstrating an ability to influence, persuade and effectively communicate.
  • A proven track record and detailed understanding of contract law and contract management processes. Proficient in the composition and interpretation of complex agreements/ contracts.
  • Experience in developing effective supplier relationships and the ability to resolve issues in performance or variations in supply without the need for legal or contractual recourse, working in partnership to deliver continuous improvement and innovation for all parties including complex performance management and incentivisation mechanisms.
  • Ability to change and adapt in order to work effectively in a variety of situations.
  • Ability to prioritise and manage own workload whilst balancing both operationally urgent and important tasks to deliver to deadlines.
  • Evidence of inspirational and inclusive leadership, developing a professional culture and building commercial capability that empowers team members through coaching, mentoring and sharing of expertise/ knowledge.
