A London-based organisation is currently undergoing significant transformation and have engaged us to support with their recruitment. With an internal promotion creating an opening, they are now seeking to appoint a new Category Manager within the IT procurement division.

The incoming procurement Category Manager will oversee a team of two, with a primary focus on pre-contract technology sourcing activities, while Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) will constitute a minor aspect of the role.

In this role centred on technology sourcing, the Category Manager will have the chance to oversee substantial technology initiatives, with project values reaching up to £10 million each. The role is situated within a cutting-edge Data and Digital framework, where effective stakeholder engagement is crucial. Responsibilities include managing the full tender process, spearheading analytical efforts, overseeing contract administration, and fostering team development. This position offers the chance to interact with major suppliers, including professional services firms, within a lively and fast-evolving setting.

Essential Experience:

  • Excellent understanding of sourcing and procurement methodologies.
  • Demonstrable IT procurement experience.
  • Experience of developing and implementing category strategies in collaboration with the business which deliver high quality commercial outcomes and organisational benefits, whilst ensuring value for money.
  • Experience of leading a negotiation with suppliers and successfully employing appropriate negotiating techniques based on the category sourcing strategy.
  • Ability to prioritise and manage a demanding workload whilst balancing both operationally urgent and important tasks to deliver to deadlines aligned with strong project management capabilities gained through practical professional experience.
  • Experience working and effectively influencing stakeholders, projecting personal impact and credibility at all levels of the organisation and the external market, demonstrating an ability to influence, persuade and effectively communicate.
  • Evidence of inspirational and inclusive leadership, developing a professional culture and building commercial capability that empowers team members through coaching, mentoring, and sharing of expertise/knowledge.
