Reporting to the Chief Revenue officer, this is a Hybrid role for someone who is ideally within the Chicago area, although our client will also consider other locations towards the east of the US (e.g. New York, Boston, etc)
Our client helps companies reduce cost, manage risk, and increase efficiency for non-strategic third-party spend. They act as an extension of their customer’s procurement team by executing the end-to-end sourcing, supplier onboarding and contracting process for indirect categories of spend.
They are focused on delivering an innovative and disruptive procurement solution to their customers to make managing non-strategic spend simpler, more transparent, and better value.
They are a global team based in London, Singapore, Middle East, Poland, and Chicago.
About the team
The Business Development team are at the forefront of growing our client by combining the rich experience of their people with the innovative use of their technology, to bring a unique and disruptive procurement solution to their potential customers to manage their non-strategic spend more efficiently. They are responsible for driving a robust and targeted pipeline to achieve success through their innovative procurement solution. The team is focused on developing strong working relationships with C-level and senior stakeholders to nurture and grow our new business. Their talented and high-performing global team works with customers across Europe, Middle East, North America, and Asia.
About the role
We are recruiting an experienced person to join our client’s Business Development team. You will be responsible for ensuring a healthy pipeline of prospects, driving the end-to-end sales cycle and achieving success through the implementation of their innovative procurement technology.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Developing a robust, healthy opportunity pipeline, drive the sales cycle and ensure successful ‘win’ conversion.
- Defining and executing a business development strategy in region to identify new opportunities, understand their drivers, scope and spend metrics, as well as their pain points and where you can add value.
- Driving commercial and contractual discussions with prospective customers, working alongside legal, finance, delivery and technical teams.
- Forecasting commercial start date, monthly spend profile, fee contribution and financial impact of all pipeline opportunities.
- Developing trusted relationships with your opportunity prospects at C-level, executive sponsors, and important stakeholders.
- Implementing appropriate governance to track and measure pipeline conversion and performance.
- Managing the handover process for new customers to Account Management, ensuring a smooth transition of responsibilities.
- Work collaboratively with other functions, such as other sales teams, delivery, legal, finance, technology and marketing, to ensure alignment.

We are looking for someone with:
- An ability to work in an innovative, collaborative team, with a positive can-do attitude in a time of significant change.
- 8+ years of experience working in a business development role.
- An understanding of, or willingness to learn, about sourcing and procurement, S2P workflows and processes, and technologies.
- Experience working with enterprise SaaS is advantageous.
- Experience of creating and executing opportunity pipelines and new business prospecting strategies.
- Effective, empathetic verbal and written communication with all levels of seniority.
- Consultative project delivery and/or selling experience. We are looking for our Business Development Directors to be spending a significant amount of time face-to-face with our customers.
